Akronafplia
Once the Acropolis of Nafplio, Akronafplia is now a peninsula submerging inside the water, embraced by the Argolic Gulf. It is a wonderful place for a quiet stroll, enjoying the natural bliss all around. Lush greenery and the horizon far away, rock formations carved by the waves and a comfortable promenade with benches and tall trees. These are the elements that will make you fall in love with Akronafplia right away!

And as you climb up to the Akronafplia Fortress, the oldest castle in Nafplio, you get carried away by the marvelous vistas. The Fortress goes back to the Bronze Age, which is pretty impressive. A place of unspoiled natural beauty, where history meets tradition and exquisite charm.

You might also hear the locals refer to Akronafplia as Its Kale. This is a name dating back to the Turks. Its meaning is “Inside the Fortress” and some people still prefer it to Akronafplia. As you will see, there are three distinct levels at Akronafplia, each featuring a different castle or fortification.

It is definitely worth discovering this part of Nafplio, exploring its glorious past and at the same time enjoying its contemporary beauty!
